A Little School Time

We are really enjoying school time now.  Alex loves to do calendar, tell new stories using the flannel board, and just be in the school room.  I really need to take some time to create new spring time materials soon too...and I can now that Steve has the printer all set up and working again for me!

Alex is very interested in letters, words, and spelling her name, my name, daddy's name, her BFF Emily's name, as well as Emily's mom, Nicole.  These are her favorite words to spell right now, though she is always looking at signs and posters and telling us what letters she sees.  She is also getting very good at identifying the beginning sounds of words and even picking up words that she sees frequently.  Her sight word vocabulary is growing every day!

Last night we did school time after dinner.  Partly because mommy had a lazy afternoon with little motivation...and partly because she likes it when daddy can join us sometimes for school time.  After my "planned" activities, she decided to take out the colored craft sticks and spell out her name...which then progressed through all her favorite names (see above).  She needed a little help in figuring out how to get the sticks in the right spots for some letters, but mostly she did it all on her own, telling us what letters were next.
