As we look back on the past year and think about all the things we did to get ready for Alex's arrival, I am amazed at what items we have that are super useful and those items we thought we had to have, but either have not used or used very little. Just thought I would share these rambling thoughts :)
Top 10 Most Useful Items (in no particular order)
1-Swing with AC adapter
2-Bouncer seat
3-Bumbo chair
4-Cozy car sSeat cover
5-Exercise/Birthing ball
6-Lots and lots of cotton blankets (for floor time and easily washable)
7-Boppy pillow (we actually got two-one for upstairs, one for downstairs)
8-Rocker/recliner for Alex's room (great for those nights when she is fussy and needs to be held)
9-Front carrier
10-Pack N Play with changing table
Top 5 Least Useful Items (for us and in no particular order)
1-Nuks (after a brief try, she has decided she does not like/want them)
2-Crib sleep position pillow (she is too wiggly of a sleeper)
3-Snowsuit or any other winter jacket (the car seat cover was much easier to use!)
4-shoes/boots for newborn and 0-3 sizes
5-mittens (she hates anything covering her hands)
We have also found some items to be wonderful that we bought on a whim, such as the Taggies (http://www.taggies.com/) cow/blanket we picked up way before she arrived. This has become a sort of comfort item as she loves to suck on his ears/hands, along with her hands, in place of a nuk. We have a couple of other Taggies items she also enjoys playing with.
We also love the Tolo Toys (http://www.tolotoys.com/) as they bright, interactive, sturdy, and easily washable when they have been in the mouths of litle ones! And there is a wide variety of items to choose from.
We have lots of other toys/apartus that we find useful on a day to day basis, but these are our favorites (and least favorites). And as a final note, for anyone looking for a good investment-C batteries! All the electronic items we have that do not have an AC adapter, seem to run on C batteris and they EAT batteries!

Take a look at the website One Step Ahead (I think it's www.onestepahead.com). Lots of neat little things that prove to be super helpful. We've got a pitcher for bath time to make hair washing/rinsing easier (the cup sort of molds to Nathaniel's forehead so water doesn't get in his eyes) and we also got these crib sheet protectors that wrap around the mattress for nights when his diaper leaks so we don't have to change the entire bed.
