Mountain Hike-Sourdough Trail

Today Alex and I had the pleasure of joining our friends, Nicole and Emily, for a hike up in the mountains.  Nicole has done a great deal of hiking and is a great resource for good trails to hike, places to camp, sites to check out, and all kinds of great places to enjoy the mountains.  The game plan had been to visit the Rainbow Lakes Trails in Indian Peaks Wilderness Area (just north of Boulder) but once we got there, we found that it was closed due to construction, so on to Plan B...we headed back down the gravel road and stopped to hike at the Sourdough Trail.

The girls were more than ready to get out of the car and move around, so off we headed up the mountain!  We stopped for a brief snack of yummy homemade granola bars and some water.  Then off we went to explore the woods.

Smelling the trees...they smelled like butterscotch, yummy!
Alex loved collecting pine cones.  Next time I need to bring a bag to collect a few treasures.

Checking out the flowers

She had to have a walking stick...just like Daddy and Grandpa!
We walked up a little further and found a great little creek.  The girls thought this was the best part of the day as they spent time watching the water flow, feeling how cold the water was, and throwing things in the water.  We tried to play "Pooh Sticks" but the water was flowing a little too fast to follow them.  But what the girls liked best was throwing rocks into the water and seeing how big of a splash they could make.

They kept trying to find bigger and bigger rocks...as those made the biggest splash!

The joys of summer!!!
