Random Tidbits

So often what I post is about activities where I took pictures, but today I thought I would just share a few random tidbits about what Alex has been up to, cute things she has done, or other ways she is amazing to us.

As you may have guessed, we read a lot of books and sing a lot of songs throughout our day.  We have talked about how Alex is starting to share in the reading of books, reading books to her friends, and just in general developing a large love and interest in books (Yay!!!) but we have not talked about singing.  She loves for us to sing with her.  She loves to listen, sing along, and dance to the Wiggles.  Right before Christmas we noticed that she was singing on her own..while she played.  Often it was the same line over and over and over and over, but still singing.  Lately her favorite song is Baa Baa Black Sheep and it is mostly the whole song, with the correct rhythm.  Steve and I will just back and quietly listen to her sing.  It makes us smile each time!

The transition to the big girl bed has gone super well.  She stays in bed at night and at nap time.  She calls out when she needs something (a drink of water, cover her up, etc...already learning to delay going to sleep!!) but she stays in bed.  When she wakes up she will again call out for one of us, but she knows she can get up and usually we meet her at the top of the stairs.  She always has a huge grin on her face, so proud of herself that she can get up all by herself.

You all know Steve had diabetes.  He has never hid that from anyone.  And we decided long ago that we would not hide it from Alex.  She has seen daddy test his blood, she has seen him change his infusion set.  She  has seen his pump.  We talk about how it is daddy's medicine.  And when he tests his blood, she says "ouchie".  The other night she had his tester and acted like she was going to do what daddy does. She was trying to put the test strip in the meter, take out the device to prick her finger, etc.  So Steve asked if she wanted to try it, reminding her it was "ouchie".  He got a new lancet, I sat with her, and her pricked her finger, drew the blood, and helped get the blood to the test strip.  She did this ALL without a tear or a whimper, or any hesitation.  She just wanted to share with daddy what he does everyday.

Must say, we love our little girl.  She is just amazing.  I know, everyone says that about their children, but really, she is something special!
