Milestones...

What a busy week we have had...both Alex and Nicholas accomplished a new "milestone"!

Alex officially became a reader!  Nicholas officially become mobile!

We spent time before the holidays really focusing on letter recognition, letter sounds, and letter formation.  And while we are still working on all these on an ongoing basis now, we are taking the next step and learning to sound out words.  I am using a really nice book/curriculum for our reading lessons, then supplementing with games, activities, and the BOB books.  This week Alex become fluent in reading the first two of the Bob Books.  She can sound out words, though we are still only on basic words right now, nothing too fancy like blends, or silent letters, though those are coming up quickly!  And she is using the pictures to figure out the story.  She is even taking these skills to read signs in our environment.  (As she said "Men" and pointed to the sign while we were shopping at Kohls today).  I am so proud of her... here is Alex reading her first two books!  She does have a flair for the dramatic...

All it took was just the right motivation and Nicholas is off and creeping/army crawling.  He will actually get up on his hands and knees, but then plops down to this belly to move.

Oh, and what was that motivation?  A can of Diet Mountain Dew (or Tab).  Yes, he is his daddy's son!
