Karate!

As some of you know, Steve studied martial arts in high school and college.  Over the years of moving, I did finally convince him he could get rid of his attire, as long as we kept his belts.  And he has talked many times about wanting to return to the martial arts himself.  We have recently begun talking about when to enroll Alex in a martial arts program.  When would she be ready?

This year at the Adams County Fair Alex won free karate lessons and free tae kwon do lessons. We gave each a try and decided to go with karate.  While a little more expensive monthly, it is something that Steve can do as well.  In fact, they can even go to classes on together, at least until Steve gets back into the swing of things and starts moving up in the master's class for his black belt!

We also choose karate because of the self discipline focus.  The focus on respect for ones self and others.  And that the program teaches about focusing your mind, as well as your body.  So...now we are adding karate twice a week to our schedule.  We are going to take a break from swimming lessons, at least for this fall and see how things go with gymnastics one day a week, karate two or three days a week, and school 5 days a week.  And I am thinking about adding piano lessons (taught by mommy to start) in January...yep, we are going to stay busy!!!

So...here she is, being introduced to the class and receiving her first belt, the white belt!

She looks so grown up!
